Bernie and the rest of the left wing of the Democrats should stop calling themselves democratic socialists

They should start calling themselves social democrats. As has been pointed out on this sub before, this term encapsulates the proposals of Sanders and his wing of the Democrats far better than the label 'democratic socialism'. Social democracy is focused more on the welfare state then on government controlled industries, which is what democratic socialism is concerned with. This falls in line with many of the left wing proposals. I would also argue that they should change it based on how when numerous governments across the world advocate for 'democratic socialism' which then leads them to corruption and economic turmoil (Venezuela). Conservatives, like Charlie Kirk of TPUSA fame, take these examples to criticise Bernie and others, criticism that is helped by the label of democratic socialism. On the other hand, the nations which advocate social democracy are both more in line with Bernie's policy proposals and more prosperous, and are the nations which most in this sub want to emulate. They are also US allies (although under Trump I don't know for how long that will be), which helps do away with the whole red scare aspect of it. It may sound like semantics but I would argue it matters. I'd like to hear you guy's thoughts in the comments.

Tweet WFP endorsed, @CynthiaNixon and encourage her to proclaim her intention to follow the “Crowley Rule” should she lose her primary to Cuomo.

The usual suspects are actively censoring discussion of Joe Crowley's third-party run and the media is barely covering it or covering it unfairly. For this story to get the attention it deserves, we should encourage Cynthia Nixon to proclaim her intention to stay on the Working Families Party's line on the ballot in November should she lose her primary to Cuomo, therefore following the "Crowley Rule". I'd like to see if the people defending Crowley will react similarly.

How Ocasio-Cortez and other Democratic Socialists should talk about healthcare

Ocasio-Cortez doing a pretty good job of taking down the straw-man socialism slur.

This is what I think she should say about healthcare:

  • Obamacare has mostly been a failure. Who’s paying a lot more this year than last year? Why? Because Obamacare did very little to control the cost increases of providing healthcare.

  • The rest of the modern developed world has already figured out how to do healthcare. Finland, Germany, Japan, France, Singapore, etc. Even the president said that the “Australian healthcare system is terrific”. And guess what they have? Yes they all aren’t perfect, but the citizens of France, Japan, and the others would agree that are way ahead of what we have in America.

  • The good news is that we already have this in place right now, and it’s called Medicare. Seniors are already covered by Medicare, and they are very happy with it. Just ask your parents or grand parents. All we want to do is remove the minimum age of 65.

  • And we need to debunk a few myths, with the first being that the Medicare for All supporters want to get rid private insurance like Blue Cross. Absolutely not. We want to offer Medicare as an option, just the way that seniors have it today. But United Health and Aetna don’t want to compete because they will know they will lose scores of customers.

  • Republicans, and even some Democrats, love to spread the idea that people from Canada and Europe flock to the US for treatment. But that is a myth spread by lobbyists of United Health and Pfizer. Just ask any European or Canadian if they would prefer to switch to our system, or to keep what they have.

  • And then there’s the myth that Medicare for all would be too expensive. Medicare has always been covering seniors, so of course it will be costly per person. But on the flip side, think about if businesses didn’t have to pay for the health insurance for their employees. Imagine how many more employees they could hire.

If the rest of the developed world has already figured it out, why can’t we get into that club?

Neoliberals who tell us that we should not harass or make people uncomfortable are why the quote “those who do not remember history, are doomed to repeat it,” exists. Time and time again, historical figures have told us that being neutral in the face of injustice, means supporting the oppressor.

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." – MLK Jr
