@Ocasio2018: “With respect to the Senator, strong, clear advocacy for working class Americans isn’t just for the Bronx. Sen. Sanders won: – Michigan – Minnesota – Kansas – Nebraska – Wisconsin – Indiana. We then lost several of those states in the general. What’s the plan to prevent a repeat?”

In this regard Philip Alston also lays out "Ferguson Syndrome" in his response to the US Ambassador withdrawing from the Human Right's Council after he filed his report on poverty in America: "The persistence of extreme poverty is a political choice made by those in power".

What happened in Ferguson, according to the US Justice Department, and what is happening in many other cities and counties:

  1. state and county taxes are capped

  2. public budgets are slashed

  3. governments are left without essential resources

  4. police departments impose and collect more fines to fund the general budget

  5. these fines fall overwhelmingly upon the poor

  6. the victims cannot pay the fines and so additional penalties and fees accumulate

  7. most scrimp and pay but some default and are imprisoned

  8. when they are in prison their economic and family situations collapse

  9. when they emerge from prison they are even less unemployable because they have a conviction

Bernie Sanders: Congratulations to Canada for legalizing recreational marijuana. The US must follow suit. There’s no reason for marijuana to be classified as a Schedule I drug as heroin is. Too many Americans have seen their lives destroyed because they have criminal records as a result of its use.
